Appy is run primarily by Angelo Hongens, an IT graybeard with 25 years of experience in the hosting- and government industry. Angelo has been building platforms using Linux/Windows, coding applications in C#/Python, has been connecting routers, firewalls and vpn’s, given trainings on infrastructure monitoring and testing and more, and has been doing DevOps and ‘site reliability engineering’ for over two decades.

Nowadays, Appy specialises in applying (mostly) enterprise-grade tried and tested open source software to medium size business and governments, and integrations using open standards. Harnessing the power of open source can help you to be more productive and more secure, usually with much lower costs. Using DevOps techniques like infrastructure-as-code, end-to-end monitoring, continuous development, etc, will ensure better robustness, reliability and resiliency (so better business continuity), faster time-to-market, more agility, etc, even though the initial investment is higher.

Where most consultancy firms are now focusing only on the cloud (for good reasons), we have a lot of experience with clients that want or require to have their applications run on-premise, or even on air-gapped networks. Sometimes for security reasons, sometimes for cost or performance reasons. The cloud is great, but might not best be the best tool for every job.

With 25 years of experience in the IT-field, we also have a lot of experience with non-open products and vendors as well of course, like Microsoft, VMware, Juniper, Cisco, and a lot of other products, and can help you set up those tools or integrate with closed-source systems.
